Paws, Claws and Calming Critters Workshop
In this interactive workshop, children will engage with various different species of animals.
Each encounter is designed to encourage gentle, respectful interaction while introducing participants to the animals’ natural habitats, dietary needs, and characteristic temperaments. Alongside factual learning, the workshop foregrounds the therapeutic potential of animal presence: research in animal-assisted interventions suggests that simply observing or calmly touching an animal can lower physiological stress responses, support emotional regulation, and enhance a child’s sense of connection and self-confidence.
Following the animal encounters, children will be invited to participate in a selected wellbeing activity—such as confidence-building exercises, guided emotional reflection, or structured conversations around worries and interpersonal challenges. These activities are adaptable to developmental level and neurodiversity, ensuring the workshop can be tailored to varied learning needs.
