Animal-Assisted Therapy is a form of therapy where a qualified BACP therapist works together with therapy animals to help children feel calm, understood, and supported. Many children find it easier to relax and express themselves when an animal is present. The animals offer gentle comfort, helping children to build confidence, learn about their feelings, and develop a sense of safety in relationships.
AAT can be especially supportive for children with autism and SEND, as it does not rely on lots of talking. Instead, children can connect through play, touch, quiet presence, or shared moments with the animal. Every session is led at the child’s pace, allowing them to feel accepted exactly as they are.
